Watching, on behalf of the beneficiaries
Global Gateway Watch is an independent civil-society initiative. We track the European Union's Global Gateway as it unfolds across Africa and ask a single, plain question on behalf of the people it names as beneficiaries: does it do what it says it does — or is something being hidden from them?
Our analysis is built from publicly available primary and secondary data, including the March 2026 Report by the European Union Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations and the subsequent vote by over 390 EU Members of Parliament; the European Commission's CUSA corridor mapping; the European Union's Directorate-General for International Partnerships (INTPA); European Union Global Gateway reports, including the Joint AU–EU Global Gateway; the 2020 assessment of EU external action by the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (DIE); and the EU's own internal strategy documents and the joint EU–Africa 2030 Vision Progress Reports.
It also draws on analysis by independent voices including the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy, Oxfam International, the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa, Eurodad, MENAFEM, Counter Balance, the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM), and the European Think Tank Group (ETTG); independent analysis and evaluation of the Lobito Corridor; and field assessment of Global Gateway projects by several civic coalitions including Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung, Concord Europe and Africa Platform.
